Simultaneous radio and X-ray observations of the low-mass X-ray binary GX 13+1
We present the results of two simultaneous X-ray/radio observations of the low-mass X-ray binary GX 13+1, performed in July/ August 1999 with the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer and the Very Large Array. In X-rays the source was observed in two distinct spectral states; a soft state, which had a corresponding 6 cm flux density of ∼0.25 mJy, and a hard state, which was much brighter at 1.3–7.2 mJy. ...
متن کاملX-ray spectral evolution of low-mass X-ray binary GX 349+2
We present the results of a systematic investigation of spectral evolution in the Z source GX 349+2, using data obtained during 1998 with Proportional Counter Array (PCA) on-board the RXTE satellite. The source traced a extended normal branch (NB) and flaring branch (FB) in the color-color diagram (CD) and hardness-intensity diagram (HID) during these observations. The spectra at different posi...
متن کاملBroad - band BeppoSAX observation of the low - mass X - ray binary X 1822 - 371
Results of a 1997 September 9–10 BeppoSAX observation of the 5.57 hr low-mass X-ray binary (LMXRB) X 1822371 are presented. The 0.3–40 keV spectrum is unusually complex and cannot be fit by any of the standard models applied to other LMXRB. At least two components are required. One component has a shape consistent with that expected from the Comptonization of an input soft (Wien) spectrum while...
متن کاملAngular Momentum Transfer in the Binary X - ray Pulsar GX
We describe three presentations relating to the X-ray pulsar GX 1+4 at a workshop on magnetic fields and accretion at the Astrophysical Theory Centre, Australian National University on 1998, November 12-13. Optical and X-ray spectroscopy indicate that GX 1+4 is seen through a cloud of gravitationaly bound matter. We discuss an unstable negative feedback mechanism (originally proposed by Kotani ...
